All doctoral students must have the doctoral study right. The University of Oulu Graduate School (UniOGS) website provides information about applying for the right to study, doctoral studies, and the processes to follow in the final stage of those studies. Population-level research, connective and support tissue research, cardiovascular research, and genetic and environmental research are particularly strong research areas at Oulu University Hospital.

Biobank Borealis of Northern Finland

Biobanks are key resources for unravelling the molecular basis of disease subtypes, identification of new therapeutic targets and biomarkers – all of which lead to personalized healthcare and more effective treatment strategies via translational medical research. Especially the digitalization of biological samples and generation of big data will create great opportunities to develop new forms of treatment, targeted drugs and health services.

MRC Oulu

The Medical Research Center Oulu (MRC Oulu) provides a high-quality research environment and training in the region. The Clinical Research Center (CRC) conducts basic and applied disease-related molecular biology research as part of the MRC Oulu infrastructure.

Oulu Laboratory Animal Centre (OULAC)

Oulu Laboratory Animal Centre (OULAC) is a part of the infrastructure platform, responsible for laboratory animals services. OULAC provides animals and facilities for animal experimentation and advices in research using animals. These services are provided for researches at the University of Oulu and the Oulu University Hospital, and for external clients according to separate agreements.
